Splash Pad News – December 2004

Just a couple of reminders:

Saturday, December 18th will be the last Farmers’ Market until January 8th.  Weather permitting, the Market management has planned an especially festive day with two separate stages.  One will feature “Destiny, The Harpist from the Hood” and the other a 7 piece Jazz Band consisting mainly of students from San Francisco State.  The latter program is sponsored by the Oakland Jazz Foundation.  Their web site is located at http://www.oaklandjazzfoundation.org/.

We are pleased to announce that SPNF now has its own domain thanks to the efforts of David Gans and Michael Zelner.  Our new URL is http;//www.splashpad.org .

If you take a look at our online photo gallery, you’ll find a newly posted photo of one of Oakland’s mounted police officers who stopped by to check out the Farmers’ Market last Saturday to the delight of lots of kids and adults.  Coincidentally, Peggy Stinnett reported in her Oakland Tribune column today, December 15, that the mounted police patrol is to be discontinued as a cost-saving measure.  Although we try not to editorialize in this space, we find this to be an unfortunate and short-sighted measure apparently enacted by interim administrators in the OPD.  Peggy’s column can be accessed at http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/ci_2488500

Finally, best wishes for the Holidays from all of us to all of you!
