Make a plan to vote in the 2024 general election
2024 is a huge election year, with the all-important Presidential election, a U.S. Senate seat, State Senate and Assembly seats, and, of course, a host of local races and propositions. All we can do is encourage everyone in the Grand Lake neighborhood to VOTE!
Register to Vote: If you want to register to vote (as a new voter or if you moved), you may register online, or you can pick up the forms at the Post Office or DMV. If you have kids who will be turning 18 by November 5, make sure that they register to vote. The last day to register to vote in the 2024 election is October 21, 2024. (You can do same-day registration, but your vote will not be counted until after it is verified.)
Vote by Mail: Every registered voter will receive a mail ballot (by October 7). You may complete this ballot and mail it back before or by election day (November 5) or drop it off at a dropbox or polling place.
Early Voting/Day-of Voting: You can vote early, and of course, the polls will be open on Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Here’s the website to help you find your polling location.
Work the Polls: Alameda County definitely needs more poll workers to run over 100 Accessible Voting Locations throughout Alameda County successfully. Here’s how to Apply to Be an Election Worker.
Splashpad News Wish List
I’m going to keep posting this, because one day, you’re going to say to yourself, “I want to help with the Splashpad,” and you’ll know where to look!
News writers: We’re definitely going to have openings for writers (volunteer of course). If you enjoy writing and want to get to know the neighborhood, this is a great opportunity. We’d also love to expand our coverage to Haddon Hill and Adams Point.
Photos, poetry and short essays. If you’re both a neighbor and a professional or amateur writer or photographer, we’d love your submissions. We don’t pay, but it’s a good opportunity to get published and read.
Calling all young, aspiring writers & journalists: We’d love to reach out to young people to contribute news stories. If you, your kid, or your students have an interest in honing their journalistic skills, send them our way.
Social Media: We need to promote this newsletter to our neighbors on NextDoor, local Insta, Facebook, you name it. It’s important but sadly, it’s not my thing. If it’s yours, please join the team!
