Sign - Green Day Spa

The Spa WindowAt the Simply Green Day Spa, a soothing waterfall wall cascades gently behind the receptionist as she greets clients, offering each person water or tea. New Age music plays quietly in the background, adding to the calm atmosphere. Hands and feet are being soaked, buffed, and creamed, and nails are being painted – but there is none of the chemical smell characteristic of common nail salons! The Spa only uses organic, environmentally-friendly products, no animal tested products, and never uses formaldehyde, toluene, acetone, or other toxic products. The staff members never wear masks, and never need to, unless they have colds.

When the Spa opened 3 years ago, two of the owners were pregnant and very careful about the health of their babies-to-be. “If we won’t put it on us, then we won’t put it on you,” assures Lawrence, the third co-owner. Lawrence has lived in Oakland his whole life and recalls playing at Astro Park, across the street, before the moon rock sculpture replaced the spaceship. “Our chins were up and our chests were out, knowing we were the only FULLY organic full-service spa in Oakland.” Moms safely bring their babies along who sit giggling on their laps while the moms get pampered.

In addition to hand and foot care (including foot reflexology), the Simply Green Day Spa offers an array of facials, massages, waxing, and aromatherapy. The mission of the Spa is to provide “lavish comfort at an affordable price for the everyday mom and dad.” says Christy, another co-owner. If you feel weary after a hectic day of cleaning, cooking, shopping, or preparing for holiday guests, if you are planning a bachelorette party for a holiday wedding, or if you want to show your appreciation for someone whose work makes your life easier, the Simply Green Day Spa may be the perfect place for you to stop, just west of 580, at 630 Grand Ave. The A-frame sign in front of the Spa offers a stress-buster special from now through tax day (April 15): a 1-hour massage will only cost $49 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
