Urban Boutique and Furniture is also featuring a show with roots in personal activism. Through her artwork, Araceli Espinoza reconstructs what feminine strength means in moments of war and how stereotypes can be challenged. Her paintings are based on real women who took up arms to protect their Mexican villages from the drug cartels.
Alchemy Bottle Shop‘s second-floor gallery is exhibiting a show of spectacular 3-dimensional collages by Sarah Misra entitled, “Selections from the Herbarium.” To create these works, Sarah makes multiple copies of antique botanical prints that she painstakingly dissects with a scalpel and then creates plants that exist only in her vivid imagination.
San Francisco Fiber‘s owner, Lou Grantham, will be doing a hands-on demonstration of a variety of weaving and spinning techniques.
The Libertine has an ongoing show of extremely tasteful nude photographs by Josh Stevenson.
510 Brand‘s walls are regularly refreshed with new artwork by shop employees and other local artists. At the August show, they will be featuring new works by Aaron Mountain, Rachel Dobos, Natalina Simi, Shelia Schroeder, Seluster Lane and more. It will also be the last opportunity to view paintings by Culling Cahayag, who tragically passed away on June 25. He will be very much missed. Complimentary beverages and snacks will be served.
