Many small local businesses run on exceptionally small margins, which means that a drop in sales of 20% or even less could have a detrimental effect on that business’s survival (LifeHacker).
The Shelter-in-Place order due to COVID-19 is critical to public health because of COVID-19 but it is also devastating many local businesses, please help keep our vibrant communities alive.
What Can You Do?
- Order takeout or food delivery from restaurants and cafes.
- Buy gift cards from restaurants and retailers for food, goods, toys, classes, services and more that can be delivered or used when this crisis subsided or contribute to a help a small business fundraiser.
- Stay healthy by taking local, online yoga and fitness classes.
The list below shows how creative our local businesses are in finding ways to serve us even in this time of a health crisis. It will be updated often, please check back for updates and more creative ways to support your local businesses and community.
COVID-19, too, shall pass but, in the meantime, let’s help make sure our local businesses survive so we can celebrate with them when this is over 🎊
Aisle 5 will be open from 1 to 6PM daily for to-go orders only. Place an on-line order at our website or call ahead at (510) 879-7053. You may also purchase cans and bottles of beer or take home a growler of our house brewed craft beer.
Ikaros Greek Restaurant: We are committed to staying open for our community and especially our employees, many of whom are losing hours or shifts at their second jobs. Food is essential to the community and we will be open 11 am to 11 pm Tuesday-Sunday (5-11 pm Mondays) for to-go orders and UberEats for the duration of the Shelter in Place order.
Samurai Sushi Boat: Out of concern for the safety of our staff and our customers, we will be closed until April 1.
Star on Grand: Open 7 days a week from Noon – 9 pm. Take-out and delivery by third parties can be ordered online. Gift cards are also available.
Neecha Thai: New daily Shelter in Place hours are Noon – 4 pm and 5 pm -9 pm. Pre-ordered meals available for pick-up for delivery via Caviar, UberEat and DoorDash. Phone (510) 451-9419

Zachary’s Chicago Pizza: Reduced hours from 11 am – 8:30 pm. Take-Out only. For pick-up, place orders online or phone (510) 444-1771. When picking up we ask that customers practice social distancing as much as possible. We encourage payment via credit or debit card to minimize cash handling. Our crew is practicing regular and frequent disinfecting and sanitizing procedures and continues to avoid hand to hand contact with fellow crew and customers. Delivery is available via our third party delivery partners (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Caviar).

Wild Rabbit Bakery: We’ve further heightened our strict sanitation protocols and reluctantly decided to reduce hours of operation to Friday – Sunday for pre-order pick-ups only. For orders over $75, one of the three owners can hand deliver in the Grand Lake District. New menu items include Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese, Brioche Loaf, Soup and for kids/parents, “Cream Tea To Go” which includes vanilla scones, strawberry jam, mascarpone, Earl Grey tea bags and a selection desserts. Grand Lake Veterinary Hospital: We’re recognized in the Shelter in Place regulations as an essential service and we are keeping regular office hours. Galleria Scola: During the current Shelter in Place directive, owner Elida Scola welcomes virtual appointments using FaceTime.
