Cleveland Heights Neighborhood Council Meeting Summary

by Ashley Ragus –
At the November Cleveland Heights Neighborhood Council meeting, the theme was community safety. Community members participated in a survey about Neighborhood Council Priorities and identified safety as a primary focus area.

One way the NC will address this is with safety walks planned over the next few months when the community can safely gather again. Another way the NC is helping meet safe recreation needs is by mobilizing volunteers to assist with the District 2/Lake Merritt Vendors Pilot Program. Stay tuned for updates on these efforts!

Additionally, the NC is helping lead preparedness for natural disasters and emergencies.

We have an upcoming Zoom Webinar from the Oakland Community Preparedness & Response Program (OCP&R) team (schedule coming soon), are distributing emergency preparedness guides from Listos California, and are identifying block captains to participate in the Oak Gen Radio emergency response program. We are also just generally connecting with neighbors, letting people know of community programs, and hoping to hear folks’ concerns and ideas through this effort! Our long term goal is to build or connect a team of folks trained in broader preparedness so we can contribute to the safety of all!
