The Native American Health Center will resume providing Covid testing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) distribution on January 9 and continue doing so through March 27. This is a free service – open to everyone. No appointment or insurance is needed
We have some new folks starting in the near future:
- Moi Eat – Oakland based Vietnamese food: Pho, Banh Mi, and Spring Rolls
- Early Bird Farm & Mill – Incredible mill that grows some of their own grains and also sources from other small California Farms. They will bring a slew of products not currently available at the market.
- Vacos – Inspired vegan tacos based in the East Bay
Editor’s Note: As the year was coming to a close, AIM was on the verge of exhausting the various grants that had funded AIM’s weekly distribution of free Bounty Boxes to Oakland nonprofits as well as those that were sold half price to EBT card holders. In response, they started a What Makes a Market fundraising campaign with a $20,000 goal which was met earlier this week and then matched for a $40,000 total. Inspired by donors’ generous response, they decided to stretch the goal to $50k. As we are about to go to press, they are just under $3,500 shy. You can help put them over the top by clicking on the above link.
Speaking of Bounty Boxes, they’ve been full of pleasant surprises over the past couple of months including three varieties of mushrooms: King Trumpet, Mai Taki and Shitake. The selection of greens has also been a treat – none more so than the Collard Greens with bacon. Winter squash has also been a frequent component of the recent boxes. Our new favorite: Delicata Squash sliced thin; tossed with olive oil, salt and pepper and then roasted until it turns into a slightly chewy finger-food.
