This month the Rotary Club of Oakland has an interesting line-up for its weekly Civic Thursday gatherings, which of course remain virtual. You can connect via Zoom as a Rotary guest or watch and engage live on Facebook every Thursday 12:30-1:30pm. This week they’re welcoming Nikki Shaw, an executive chef working with the A’s on community wellness, who will be speaking about the importance of self-care to effective community leadership. Next week the focus is on criminal justice, with Jay Jordan from Californians for Safety & Justice. The last speaker before the holiday break is Theodore Ellison, a renowned glass artist. The speakers usually start around 1 pm, after an opening segment filled with interesting updates from Rotarians on local service activities, local businesses, and Rotary initiatives around the globe. All month long across their communications channels they will be celebrating #OakRotaryGiving by highlighting the tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of volunteer hours the club contributes to organizations across our community.
