On Grand Ave., West of 580
Hello, Neighbors! Watch this space for monthly news and notes about tasty gems, handy services, art, and changes on Grand Ave., west of 580. — LZ.
This month we say, “Happy Anniversary” to Lakeview Bicycle (622 Grand Ave., just 4 buildings west of the 580 overpass). Charlie Cho, owner, opened 2 years ago, focusing on serving bike commuters. The location is a great spot to serve folks headed from the dense residential area of Adams Point to jobs downtown, Whole Foods, the Lake, or the Farmer’s Market at Splash Pad Park.
Charlie and his wife, Mana Tominaga, are impressed with the number of new Oaklanders, like themselves, who have dropped by to window shop, chat, and make use of this “shop local” service. Charlie was astonished at the neighborhood’s high energy on Saturdays! (Take a bow, Marketeers.)
- Bike commuters come here to have a professional bike fitter, Rick Ryu, address their wheelbuilding and custom bike needs.
- Charlie and Mana have a 3-yr-old toddler, so they are alert to the biking needs of families. Come here for kid seats, kid-size helmets, balance bikes, even streamers!
- Want to take an out-of-town guest on a bike tour? Rent a bike for $20/day.
- Ready to take your relationship to a whole new level? Rent a tandem bike for $25/day.
** HOT TIP: Mention you saw Lakeview Bicycle in the Splash Pad Park newsletter and get your bike tune-up for last year’s price ($65) – a $10 savings! **
Hours: Mon – Fri 11-7 (but open late for 1st Thursdays on Grand, Aug. 4.)
